Embellishing with Texture Medium
led by Rebecca Stark
What to bring if you will be joining in on this project
Cost for material supplied by Rebecca will be $1 per shard and up to $3 for a mini gourd for the texture medium, etc.
You must supply the shard or gourd
Gourd Shards or small mini gourd, cleaned
carver (not battery operated), with burrs and/or bits to lower a portion of gourd material or to make other designs on shard. Alternatively you could glue on something to make a dam to hold the texture medium, i.e. suede/leather lacing, braided waxed linen, sinew (anything that will give you about 1/8"-1/4" height to contain the medium)
Dust Mask (important as gourd dust is an irritant ). Other safe-practice tips; if you have long hair make sure it is pulled back and can't find its way into your carver. Do not wear any type of loose-flowy blouses, they do get caught in rotary tools
Wood Burner if you want to put other designs on your shard
Pencil
Masking tape to place straight lines if wanted
Dyes or paints if you will want to color your shard
Paint Brushes if using
Wax or Varnish if wanted
apron
stamps several small stamps to emboss a pattern onto the wet medium
Baby Powder and a soft brush to remove excess powder from the texture medium and your stamps
canned air for you, your project and your tools is nice, wire brush for your burs is nice but not necessary
If you don't want to participate in this project just bring whatever project you want to work on along with whatever you need to work on it.
Main focus is to have fun with like minded gourders
