April 1st, 2013 Spirit Dolls
Our 'focus' project for this meeting is making Spirit Dolls. Each member will be working with their own creativity and materials. This is not a class but rather a gathering of friends and minds, with the goal of having fun. You may or may not finish your doll during the meeting, depending on what techniques you will be using. You may want to Google 'gourds' and 'spirit dolls' to gather some inspiration.
Some things you may want to bring;
Some things you may want to bring;
- one or two gourds, depending on if you want a separate head and body or an all in one doll
- wood burner if you will be burning prior to using dyes or paints
- dyes or paints, brushes
- sand or pebbles to weight your doll
- base or platform if needed so your doll will be 'up standing'
- varnish or other protective coat to use over your dyes or paints
- embellishments. Here is where the fun begins., consider weeds, waxed linen, threads, yarn, horse hair, broom bristles, moss, acorns, feathers, beads, leather, material, and anything else you might happen to think of
- glue to stabilize your embellishments
