2013 November 4th - Photo Transfer with Reba
Here is the information sent by Reba for this month's project
Materials needed:
1. Omni Gel transfer medium - available at Michaels or joann.com ( or any other brand of gel transfer medium you find will probably also work
2. images to transfer to the gourd
3. bottle of water and pan to hold water to soak the prepared gel images
4. lint free towel to clean surface
5. a cutting board or something to lay your finished gel transfer on to dry
6. Modge Podge, or an acrylic matte or semi-gloss spray, your preference, to finish
To Do At Home prior to meeting
1. Prepare gourd ( or shard) with final color finish)
2. Make a color photocopy of your image and cut it/them out leaving a 1/4" extra border or more around your design, which you will trim later). NOTE: Inkjet printer will not work well with Omni Gel. You can enlarge or minimize the design to fit your project. (Omni Gel's instructions say you can use "magazine images, color copies or laser copies.")
3. First brush on the gel in a horizontal direction on the print and let it completely dry. (Gel looks milky at first then dries clear)
4. Then brush on the gel in a vertical direction and let dry completely.
5. Brush on a final coat of gel in a diagonal direction and let dry completely.
6. Trim away extra paper leaving a 1/4" border around image.

TO DO AT THE GROUP MEETING
1. Place print or prints in water and let it soak 10-20 minutes
2. Remove from water and place image side down on a smooth surface. Use your finger to roll away the paper from the back of the image. When the majority of the paper is gone, use a lint free towel to clean off the rest.
3. Place on a flat surface and allow to dry. (One side will be glossy and the other side matte.)
4. Use Gel as glue to attach transfers to your gourd. Let dry.
5. Karen Watson in a magazine article says you can then put a final cover with Modge Podge on your desige. (Or could use an acrylic matte or semi-gloss spray).
